Problem with PI3 Pro A stalling/stopping
Problem with PI3 Pro A stalling/stopping
Hi,
We've recently assembled our new PI3 (Aluminium model with lead screws), and have been able to print a few objects with PLA.
I've been trying to print with PETG and have hit a problem with the print head slowing down during the first layer and then stopping. The LCD controller is also unresponsive when this happens and I have to switch the unit off. I thought that this might be a problem with the firmware so I upgraded the firmware to Marlin 1.1.4 after setting configuration.h for the model. Unfortunately the new firmware had not fixed the problem.
I'm printing via SD card (the same card that I can print PLA objects from), using Simplify3D as the slider, and setting the temperature to 230/85 for the PETG.
Any ideas what is causing these stalls?
Thanks,
Andy

Re: Problem with PI3 Pro A stalling/stopping
Do you check the distance from the nozzle to the hotbed ?I guess that it is too close from the nozzle to the hotbed without the correct leveling before printing. so the nozzle continues down when it touches the hotbed and assumed it had not reached the hotbed.

I don't think that it's the nozzle hitting the bed. I've leveled the bed and it starts to print (the skirt outline prints OK and is closer to the edges of the print bed) - also, there's no straining of the motors that I can hear as they just slow down to a stop and the LCD freezes. There's no errors displayed - it just freezes.

Could you attach a video with your printer issue? I want to make it clear.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Ok, good idea. I'll video it.

Here's two videos of the problem:
https://photos.app.goo.gl/lb1mszqCidTNP1uA3
The first video (3:57) shows the print starting with the skirt and the raft, the second video is a few minutes later when the printer showed down and then stopped - the controller interface had then frozen and the selection dial doesn't work.

1. Please use a different SD card test, SD card format FAT32 CLASS4

2. Please use the USB serial port to try to print whether there will be the same situation

Re: Problem with PI3 Pro A stalling/stopping
I've just tried printing via USB (Windows 10 running Simplify3D to drive the printer). I'm still getting stalls, but it starts printing again after about a minute of not moving.
Here's a screenshot of the communications log in Simplify3D when a stall happens. https://photos.app.goo.gl/f8BEsHNFLO4O7Ckv2
Simplify3D reports that the printer is unresponsive, gets some frame and CRC errors, and manages to start getting a response again after about a minute.

Trying to update the firmware via Easyprint, I have encountered the same problem.
