Marlin 2.0.x Firmware on A20M

Hi, are only the firmware versions 1.1.8 listed on the Geeetech website compatible with the A20M printer, or should any newer version of the Marlin firmware also be compatible? Currently marlin 2.0.5 (https://marlinfw.org/meta/download/).
I have the 3D touch and tried the latest Geeetech firmware compatible with that and the GT2560 board, but i seem to be getting different extrusion behavior with the 3D touch version of the Geeetech 1.1.8 Geeetech offers vs the non-touch 1.1.8 that is available in the official firmware download list.
I would like to try other firmware but do not want to inadvertently add new hidden problems caused by incompatibility that make it even harder to troubleshoot my print behaviors.

It is not recommended that you update to version 2.0.x, please use the latest firmware provided on the official website.
