Extruder not heating

Post by veritech » Tue Apr 07, 2015 12:15 am

Hi,
I just purchased a Prusa I3b printer kit. assembled it on the weekend, fixed a couple of issues and got it to auto home.
I connected it to my notebook, downloaded the drivers and the software as per the wiki.

I have the software connecting to the printer and am able to control the motors, etc. when I start the preheat for ABS, it sets the extruder setpoint to 230 degrees celcius and the table to 110 degrees celcius. The table heats up the to 110 degrees in a couple of minutes, but after 30 minutes, the extruder is only reading 38 degrees.

I tested the pins on the Sanguinololu Rev 1.3a board that the extruder is connected to and it reads 12Vdc. I disconnected the wires from the Sanguinololu board and tested resistance to see if there was an open circuit and I had resistance.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Can you heat up the extruder now?

So, I removed the heater lines from the control board and tinned the ends and did another resistance test. this time, I noticed that it was 12M ohms (body resistance from me holding the wires to the probes), so I started looking for an open.

I removed the heater from the extruder assembly, pulled back the heat shrink tubing and found one of the lines broken at the crimp. I tinned the line and re-crimped it. I can now get a resistance reading at the board.

I am going to put it all back together now and test it.
