Z axis inaccurate travel

hi.
i recently finish building the kit Geeetech Prusa i3 Aluminium. The first problem i encounter was getting the bed to align. Before i found out what was wrong with it, i couldn't get the bed to align. i turns out the glass wasn't perfect or there where some flex when i use the clip. My solution was to get another glass(thicker) and make sure it is completely flat. After doing that, it was easy to make sure the bed was flat in relation to the extruder.
i've encountered another problem though. when i did my print, the the first layer printed perfectly but on the next layer and the rest of it, it looks like the z axis travels too far. so i check the z axis travel under >prepare>move axis>1mm>z axis. when i turn the knob to move 1mm, the z axis travel about 6mm. way off! how can i fix this issue? i think i can change the value on the menu >control>motion>zaxis steps but i don't know the value for accuracy.
