Re: 2 rows of black squares
Maybe it's the Crystal Oscillator, you can check if it has a good soldering.
Then measure the voltage between the 2 pins(both sides of Crystal Oscillator)and GND separately.

Re: 2 rows of black squares
The lcd seems fine, i cannot connect via usb to it all commands time out. Says, no start signal detected - forcing start
Re: 2 rows of black squares
On rechecking its not working , like an intermitant fault
Re: 2 rows of black squares
Strange thing...
1.You said it appeared two rows of black squares, while the lcd seems fine after that.
Maybe you can show me the issue with a video.
2.Check if the LCD wiring has a good connection.
3.About the msg "no start signal detected",you can check if the baud rate is right and plug the usb cable to another USB port on computer.

Re: 2 rows of black squares
It just wont start up, checked all com port and baud settings, my friends spare board worked on it, and lcd displayed fine, he thinks the board is faulty.
