USB cable overheating, possible short?

Hello everyone!
I got my i3 pro B 2 days ago, assembled it immediately and tried to turn it on.
Y-axis was on reverse but everything else was fine. Found here on the forums a way to fix it with firmware.
I then proceeded with everything needed to fix the problem, and everything seemed ok until i plugged in the usb cable.

When i plugged the USB cable i noticed that my laptop did not see any new devices, no notification no nothing (win7).
In less than 15 seconds i was weirded out by the smell of a burning plastic so i thought i would turn everything off to find out what happened.
To my surprise the USB cable was extremely hot, almost impossible to touch.
After checking and testing i realised i had luckily not burnt anything. Motors worked fine, lcd showed what it was supposed to show
and everything, apart from the USB port/cable, was peachy.

A lot of web research ( https://www.thingiverse.com/groups/sunh ... topic:2469 ) pointed me to the power supply shorting out. I tried measuring it but i got 0V at ground so apparently that was not the problem.

Any help would be appreciated! I have no idea what to look for or what to try. Plus, i have almost no experience when it comes to anything electronic.

i3 pro B with GT2560 board, single extruder, assembled as is.
Win 7, Core2Duo, 2GB ram laptop

After some more extensive trial and error, the USB cable was measured to output 3.3V on the first and third pin.
I have no knowledge if that is normal or not, any help would still be appreciated.

Hi，I think you can reinstall the driver as the printer cannot be recognized by computer,and you can download in this link:http://www.geeetech.com/wiki/index.php/ ... he_drivers.As to USB cable，I think replacing new usb is faster solution.

The computer does not provide an unknown device when i plug the board.
Even if i did install the driver, there is no device to use it.
And by replacing new USB what do you mean?
I have used more than 3 cables (out of curiosity) till now,
and they all appear to get burning hot and melt in seconds.

Could you possibly mean the USB port on the board itself? And if so, how do i do that?

Sorry for not clear reply.I think there are some problems in the USB port on the board.And I want to know which GT2560 version you have,VA or VA+？Please take some videos showing the USB port's position when power is on.I guess the fuse have been broken.

I have the same problem today.

I've just finished assembling my Prusa I3 pro B, i put it online, everything seems to be OK.

I plug it to my computer, and the printer isn't reconized.

The USB cable is overheating and nothing more.

I have test the cable with an Arduino UNO card, my card is correctly reconized, the serial port is up and i can upload a program without problem.

When i plug the USB cable on the printer, nothing seem to happend and the USB cable is overheating :/

the card is a GT2560 rev A+.

Maybe you can download the manual driver while the USB cable can't be recognized by your computer.if the above method can't solve your problem,you need change a new USB cable.

Unfortunaly i ever change the USB cable.
I don't think it's a driver problem, otherwise my computer would have found an unknown peripheral. Currently my computer does not see anything at all, and I tried with two different USB cables with work perfectly with an Arduino Uno R3 board. The GT2560 of the printer seem to have an Arduino Mega board, i think the usb port is broken.

I will see with my vendor to change the control board.
