3-in-1 echo: SD init fail

Hi,

I have 3-in-1 control box and can't seem to get my SD card reader to work.

When I insert SD card the display shows Card Inserted, then when I scroll down it says No SD Card and I cannot see any files on the card.

I've tried several different SD cards, different format (FAT16, FAT32), cycling power, powering on with card in the slot, powering on with slot empty, in all cases Repetier Host shows echo:SD Init Fail.

Is this a firmware problem? Or do I need to open up the box and start checking there?

What's the file format you put in the SD card? it should be .gcode file.
And how aobut check the pins of the SD card socket, is there any bad solderings?

I tried .gco, .gcode. In either case the SD card cant be seen, although it does know the card has been inserted.

Soldering looks OK, I dont see any bad joints or shorts.

I've tried 3 cards so far, all the same result: No SD Card, and echo: SD Init Fail

That's why I wonder if maybe it's something in the firmware.

You can try to reinstall the firmware. And maybe the LCD is defective, you need to contact the sales to talk about this.

Out of desperation I re-soldered the pins in IC1 (even though they looked OK).

The SD card slot now works great. All my SD cards work: 512MB SD, 2GB SD, 4GB SDHC Class 4, 8GB SDHC Class 10

I put a scope on the IC1 hex buffer clock pin 3, and when I inserted a card, I got a brief clock signal, but it had a ghost/reflection, probably enough to prevent the SD card from working. I thought maybe the trigger on my scope wasnt set right, but then I remembered from somewhere that impedance mismatch or capacitance or something can cause reflections, so I guessed maybe poor soldering.

I never checked to see if reflection went away after re-soldering. Anyway like I said, I had no other ideas. I'm just happy it's working now.

If anyone else gets this problem, try re-soldering pins on IC1.
