GTM32 - can DRV8825 drivers be used?

Post by neilcoggins » Sun Feb 14, 2016 8:16 pm

Hi.

Trying to change the A4988 drivers in my M201 to be DRV8825, but I can't seem to make them work properly... Does the GTM32 firmware support these stepper drivers, and if so, what is needed to make them work?

Thanks!

I think just mind the driver direction and check the jumper caps under the driver board if you use 1/16 subdivision, they are not the same.

Hi,

Seems to work really nicely at 1/32, actually. Just had to set the voltage lower than I expected (0.4V) for it to work properly. (And change steps/mm in the LCD to double what it was!)

My y-axis is now very smooth, big improvement over the A4988.

How did you manage to get the DRV8825 working?
I use Firmware 1.03 with the older layout of the DRV8825 carrier (had them n the bin) - mean I soldered a 10k resistor between fault and sleep pins.
I replaced 2 driver - on X- and Y-axis.
I can move the X- and Y-axis after adjusting the ref-voltage to approx. 0.5V, also moving correct distance after setting to 163 steps/mm.
But if I send a home command - either on a single axis or on all axis, the x- and/or y-axis doesn't move and I have to push reset to get reaction any further to commands.

Hi,

curiously enough I have (literally in the past 24h) started to get the same problem on my Y-axis - it won't home at all...

I'm guessing something in the firmware can't handle 1/32 microstepping properly, but since it -was- working for me and now isn't (and nothing changed in the interim, other than power-cycling the printer), I'm a bit confused.

I didn't know any modification was required - not done anything to my DRV8825 other than plug it in... Same jumpers as the A4988 was using (which is "all closed", which IIRC is "maximum microstepping" for both A4988 and DRV8825).

Been reading on the web about this, and it appears to be an issue with either the duration of the pulse sent to the DRV8825 or the delay between pulses (which I guess is related). That would suggest that the firmware needs to be tweaked to make it work. Moreover, it explains why it might have worked for me for a while, but not since power-cycling - my DRV must have been right at the edge of not working, and the power-cycle must have done something to tip it over - microseconds out of sync now, perhaps?

Back to Geeetech to sort out I guess (but I want M92 and M110 working first! ;) )

I asked Tech support if I could use DRV8825 drivers and they say yes. They said the voltage should be the same as my G2s (That is 0.71 V). I have just finished building my printer so will try tomorrow.

any news on gtm32 for this drivers?

i know that it can work in 1/16 micro setping (had to brutforce, the jumpers), but is not the intent, as it support 1/32

came on support, tell us anything about.

thanks

Just adjust the jumpers to 1/16 step like A4988 does when you use DRV8825 instead, and choose a appropriate driver voltage by ronating the potentiometer.
