USB connection Lost when heaters are on Heatbed or Extruder

Post by Yovan » Tue Aug 25, 2015 6:29 pm

I recently purchased a Geeetech Full Acrylic Prusa I3 DIY KIT Pro X 3D Printer . When I try to print from the computer using repetier I lose connection ,I have noticed that this only occurs when the heat bed or extruder heat is on, If I manually control any of the axis it works fine from Repetier provided that I don't have either the Heat Bed being or the extruder being heated. Do note that when printing with the SD card I don't have any problem it prints without interruption.

Hi,yovan.
Can you tell me is the hotbed or the extruder when you're heating up that caused the problem?
According to what you said, it might be a short out between the hotbed printed circuit and the USB circut.
You can do this to verify it:
1) set the hotbed to a very low temperature, and start printing to see if it happens again;
2) use a multimeter to check this two pins( 1and 2 of the chip) if they were shoted or not.

Hi,
Thank you for your reply, those 2 pins are short, As soon as the bed is heated even at low temperature like 32 I get Serial com error. What is the next step ??

Hi Mark,
I can't see my previous reply so I posted again.
As mentioned those 2 pins are shorted. The connection lost happens when the bed is heated even at low temperature.

1) Use the soldering iron to resolder these two pins and make them separate;
2) If it's hard to resolder it, use a knife to cut the soldering apart; but be careful with the board.

Already performed what you requested with a knife but same problem :-
When the temperature of the hot bed reaches around 65 Degree I can no longer control the printer via USB. Here is the log :-

My conclusion : When the hotbed has reached 65 Degree or more the USB connection is lost , even if you do reset the printer or power it off you cannot reconnect to the printer you have to wait for about 15 minutes provided that the hot bed is not ON to be able to connect via USB to the printer again. (The connection is also not possible even if you disconnect the temperature sensor of the hotbed)
I hope that this helps to find a solution to the problem quickly.
