Z axis Stepper Motor problems

I am having problems with the Z-axis stepper motors, when the threaded rods are inserted into the couplings and tightened the stepper motors just don't spin and just buzz. I have loosened the couplings and then the motors spin but obviously, the rods don't move and the extruder does not. COuld someone please let me know what I am getting wrong?
