Motor DOA, extruders do not work

Post by TAMHAN » Fri Jun 26, 2015 4:16 am

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
please permit me to inform you about the following issues with my Geetech Pro C as purchased from AliExpress via your presence there.

x) One of the two stepper motors do not turn on the Z axis, while the other one works perfectly
I have already sent a video to Mrs Candy, proving the situation. I would need the motor replaced urgently as the printer does not work.

x) Extruder does not work
None of the two extruder motors can be turned. Since this could be a firmware issue, I would like to ask for an image of the latest firmware. Send it to tamhan at tamoggemon dot com please.

All the best
Tam Hanna

The firmware has been sent to your email.
Please try again after uploading the firmware.
Check if the motor driver is fine.

Hello,
having performed a complete differential diagnosis, I am proud to present you the defective part. It was a crimping issue on one of the cables, as can be seen in the attached image. So, I now need a new cable; which, I of course expect to be shipped ASAP. You have my address via Aliexpress, so its 12h again (see below as for why).

Sadly, this is not the only problem. I performed a complete warmup of the printer, and have to report that:
a) the heatbed maxes out at 97 degrees celsius
b) the extrudeur head is defective. During the heating process, it lowered itself due to heat transferred from the extrudeurs to the plastic via the screws (see images). At minimum, I would need the blue parts replaced...even though I think that it will not work with a new set of parts as it is a constructive defect.

Pictures are coming in seperate posts

Picture of wrongly crimped cable. This seems to be a common error, maybe your supplier was tired.

Fortunately, here is the repair instruction. When looking at the silver part of the cable from the top, you will see something which looks a bit like an erected hook which blocks the cable from being pulled back. Push this down with a small screwdriver, and retract the black cable. Then, move it one slot to the right.

Hello,
I now installed the new firmware, but the extruders still don't turn. This is weird, as the motors themselves work perfectly!

Hi, we are sorry for sending you a bad motor wire, but you can re-position the black wire yourself, have you solved this issue?

As for the extruder motor not moving, please check if the extruder motor driver(A4988) is fine:Turn off the printer, Exchange x motor driver with extruder motor driver.

The LCD displaying max temp error on hot bed: Please check if hot bed thermistor is connected to wrong slot, please take a picture of mainboard, let me check if the wiring is correct.

Hello,
thank you so much for your response. Please permit me to note the following:
a) Cable connection to MoBo is correct, as the board would not heat up otherwise. But this is not a big problem for now.

Big problems are:
a) Motor drivers work, but the extruder still doesnt. We, IMHO, are looking at a defect of the GE2560 process computer.
b) Extruder head attachment deforms due to heat. We, IMHO, are looking at a constructive deficiency.

Re the cable: I was able to recrimp it to some extent, but would prefer a new cable. Altough, in fact, I would now already prefer a different printer with a different process computer. The printer is in my lab for almost a month now and it still doesnt work.

Hello,
big thanks! They just confirmed intent to send a new printer controller and extruder mount!

In the mean time: could you please tell me which GPIO pins correspond to the individual stepper drivers?
