Rostock 301 head drops to bed on emergency stop

Hello,

I've just finished assembling and calibrating (which has been a little PITA) my brand new Rostock 301 and I'm about to print my first items (I've already made an "ghost" print i.e. without any extrusion to check if the head/nozzle movement seemed right and that helped me correcting the calibration). But I have noticed something that troubles me a little : when I hit the "Emergency stop" button in Repetier-host (whatever the parameters in the Firmware and in the software) the head drops down to the heatbed (pos: X0 Y Z0) ! So, if that was to happen on an actual print, that would mean the already printed part would likely be crushed by the impact and the weight of the the printing head and that wouldn't be a good idea !

It would be better to have the head not to move, or to be able to specify a position to where move the head (or by default the home position)... Does anybody have ever experienced such a behavior with a delta printer and/or found a way to correct that ?

Hi,
The hotend won't drop to the bed when you're making a printing.Cuz after you slice the object,the generated Gcode(M84) will tell the hotend keep its position.

Thanks for your answer, but the M84 code is only generated at the end of the Gcode, meaning that if (for whatever reason) you have to hit the "Emergency stop" button (or the printer "Reset" button for that matter), the hotend would drop to the bed, crushing what's already been printed...

After looking deeper in that matter, it appears that the hotend is dropping when the connection is established between Repetier-host and the printer (Emergency stop was configured to send the Emergency command AND then Reconnect, and it was that second part that cause this behavior). I believe the problem to occur on the line after the Firmware informations... Does anyone have an idea on how to tell Z to be equal to 220 instead of 0 ?

Isn't this caused by the weight(hot end assembly) and gravity when the power is dropped off to the motors?
Mine drops about 3/4 of an inch when either hitting E-Stop on Repetier-Host or turn off the power supply.
Anyway to put a brake on the top pulley for each axis? The brake is released when the main power is on and out of E-Stop.

I posted earlier saying my Rostock 301 dropped about 3/4 inches when cutting power on my power supply.
I was experiencing the free fall condition when turning off my power supply after I ran the program to exercise all axes motion using program from SD card. At the end of the program it brought all axes back to home position. Then, I turned off my power supply, the hot-end assembly did a free fall almost touched the aluminum plate. I bought it on, home all axes, then turned off power supply. It did again, but this time it did not go as far as last time. This is dangerous if I had just spent 10 hours to print the part, then shutting off my printer, it would crash into the part.

On one hand,we take down the printed object before shutting off the printer most of time.

On the other hand,let's think about it,once we shut off the power,which part can control the motors to hover?Nothing!Cuz there's no power.The motors fall down because of their great flexibility,which makes the motors move freely when printing.

Hi, New from Sydney, Australia and I am trying to pressed the stop button but it is not performing action. What should I do know with the bed now?

Hi,
You stop button means "emergency stop" button?
If you do,make sure your printer has a good connection to your computer.
Or you mean the "stop print" on the LCD?
In that case,it needs more time to response,just be patient plz.

I have had my 301 completed for three months now and I have not been able to get a decent print out of it :( , but that is beside the point.

I have the belt tension at a point where the head does not fall when the printer is powered off. Yet, the belts skip when the head is on motion. Do you think the belts are too tight or maybe the belts/gears a worn?
